Gauteng family Who refused Covid-19 quarantine tracked down

An unnamed Gauteng family who refused to be quarantined after two of its members tested positive for the deadly corona virus has been located.

In a statement the Department of Health said the family refused to be quarantined after the wife and daughter tested positive for the virus. The husband declined a test and instead left the hospital without swabs being taken.

Kwara Kekana, spokeswoman for the department said they had to approach the courts on an urgent basis in order to ensure constitutional rights of the family in question were not interfered with.

“ The court order was granted around 1am yesterday in favour of the department. As a result the matter was reported to the SAPS to trace the family. We are pleased that the family was found in the afternoon and was attended to at a designated health facility”, said Kekana.

Kekana said they wished to commend the South African Police Service for swiftly attending to the matter. She said it was important for everyone to pull together to defeat this pandemic.

Following this incident the department has appealed to members of the public to cooperate with health workers as cases of COVID-19 increase in the country.
