Two killed, two injured in shooting outside Blue Valley Golf Estate

By Julia Moyo

Police have launched a murder investigation after two people were shot and killed and two others wounded in a suspected targeted attack at the entrance of Blue Valley Golf and Country Estate on Thursday morning.

According to Gauteng police, four people were travelling in a Toyota vehicle and were entering the estate when they were approached by two unidentified men riding motorcycles. The suspects allegedly dismounted their bikes and opened fire on the vehicle before fleeing the scene. The driver and front-seat passenger were declared dead at the scene, while the two other occupants sustained injuries and were taken to hospital for medical treatment.

Gauteng police spokesperson Colonel Dimakatso Nevhuhulwi said the circumstances surrounding the shooting are still under investigation.

“Two unknown men riding motorcycles allegedly approached the vehicle and started shooting at the occupants before fleeing the scene,” she said. Police have opened cases of two counts of murder and two counts of attempted murder. No arrests have been made and the motive for the attack remains unknown.

The shooting occurred at Blue Valley Golf and Country Estate, a residential and golfing estate situated between Johannesburg and Pretoria, known for its high-security living environment. The incident has left residents and members of the surrounding community concerned about safety despite the estate’s security measures.

The latest attack comes amid ongoing concerns about violent crime and gun-related incidents across Gauteng. While police have not yet confirmed whether the victims were specifically targeted, the manner in which the attack was carried out has raised questions about a possible planned hit.

Authorities are appealing to anyone who may have witnessed the incident or who has information that could assist the investigation to come forward.
