About Us

Gauteng News

Gauteng News proudly displays the “FAIR” stamp of the Press Council of South Africa, indicating our commitment to adhere to the Code of Ethics for Print and online media which prescribes that our reportage is truthful, accurate and fair.

Vision
To become the leading trusted news platform in our region by setting the standard for factual, context-rich, and community-centered journalism. We envision a media ecosystem where information is accessible, reliable, and actionable — where citizens are equipped to understand complex issues, hold institutions accountable, and participate meaningfully in democratic and social life.

Our long-term goal is to build a newsroom that reflects the diversity of the communities we serve, earns public trust through consistent accuracy, and adapts to how people consume information without compromising journalistic standards. We aim to be the first place people turn to when they want to know what’s happening, why it matters, and what can be done about it.

Mission
Our mission is to produce independent, high-quality journalism that informs, explains, and empowers. We do this by:

1. Committing to Accuracy and Verification
Every story we publish goes through a process of fact-checking, source verification, and editorial review. When we make a mistake, we correct it quickly and transparently. Accuracy isn’t optional — it’s the foundation of trust.

2. Serving the Public Interest Above All
We prioritize reporting that affects people’s lives: local government decisions, public safety, education, healthcare, economic opportunities, and social issues. We avoid sensationalism and focus on stories that inform decisions and spark constructive conversation.

3. Providing Context and Analysis
News is more than what happened. We explain the background, the stakeholders, the data, and the likely implications. Our goal is to help readers move from awareness to understanding, so they can engage with issues intelligently.

4. Amplifying Diverse Voices and Perspectives
A healthy democracy requires multiple viewpoints. We actively seek out voices from different communities, backgrounds, and experiences, especially those often underrepresented in mainstream media. We report fairly, even when perspectives conflict.

5. Maintaining Editorial Independence
Our editorial decisions are made by journalists, for the public. We are independent of political parties, corporate interests, and undue influence. Advertising and partnerships are clearly separated from editorial content.

6. Upholding Ethical Standards
We adhere to core journalistic ethics: fairness, transparency, minimizing harm, and respecting privacy. We treat sources, subjects, and audiences with respect, and we hold ourselves to the same standards we apply to others.

7. Innovating in Delivery Without Diluting Substance
We meet audiences where they are — on mobile, social, video, and audio platforms — while preserving the depth and rigor of our reporting. Accessibility, clarity, and usability are part of our responsibility.

8. Engaging the Community
Journalism works best as a two-way conversation. We invite feedback, correct errors publicly, and use community input to identify stories that matter. We see our audience as partners in the pursuit of truth.

Core Values that Guide Us

  • Truth: Pursuing facts relentlessly, even when inconvenient.
  • Accountability: Holding power to account and holding ourselves to account.
  • Fairness: Giving every side a fair hearing and avoiding pre-judgment.
  • Clarity: Writing and presenting in plain, precise language.
  • Service: Measuring success by how well we serve the public, not just by clicks or reach.
