A brutal triple murder has shaken the Gugulethu community in Cape Town, leaving residents in fear and police scrambling for answers. The incident occurred on Monday at approximately 20:22 at Nontulo Street in New Cross, where two bodies, a man and a woman, were found inside a residence with gunshot wounds to the head and upper body.
According to police spokesperson Colonel Andrè Traut, preliminary investigations indicate that the victims, believed to be in their thirties, were ambushed by four armed suspects who opened fire before fleeing the scene. Several cell phones and a firearm belonging to one of the victims were also found at the site, raising questions about the motive behind this brazen attack.
“The investigation teams are actively working to piece together the events that led to this senseless act of violence, but as of now, the exact motive remains unclear,” Traut stated. He urged anyone with potential leads or information regarding the incident to come forward, emphasizing that all information will be treated with the strictest confidentiality. The Provincial Serious and Violent Crime Unit has launched an investigation into the horrific incident. “We are looking for any details, no matter how small, that could assist us in resolving this case,” Traut appealed.
Residents are living in fear, with gun violence becoming an almost daily threat in some areas. “We’re tired of waking up to death and bloodshed. This cannot be our normal,” said one local resident who asked not to be named. The triple murder is the latest in a string of shootings reported in the area, highlighting the growing crisis of extortion rackets targeting foreign-owned businesses and local residents. Community leaders are calling for stronger policing and community cooperation to address the issue.
