Suspended South African Police Service (SAPS) Organised Crime Unit member Sergeant Fannie Nkosi will remain behind bars after the Gauteng High Court in Pretoria dismissed his bail appeal, dealing a major setback to a police officer accused of undermining criminal investigations and abusing his position within law enforcement.
Judge Papi Mosopa upheld an earlier Pretoria North Magistrate’s Court ruling, finding that Nkosi poses a flight risk and could interfere with witnesses and ongoing investigations if released. The court also found that granting bail would undermine public confidence in the justice system, particularly given allegations that missing police dockets were discovered at his home and that large sums of unexplained money flowed through his bank accounts.

Nkosi, who has emerged as a key figure in allegations of organised criminal infiltration within SAPS and has featured prominently in testimony before the Madlanga Commission of Inquiry, was arrested following a raid on his residence in April 2026. Prosecutors argue that the evidence against him points to a pattern of conduct that compromised multiple criminal investigations and facilitated serious criminal activity.
