50-year-old Aaron Matome Mphakane from a village outside Burgersfort in Limpopo, fell victim of identity theft in March.
His bank account has been debited since the end of March for a car he did not buy.
Mphakane was amazed to find out towards the end of March that his account was debited an amount of R9 200.
When he went to consult with the bank to reverse the debit order and to query about the transactions, the bank told him that at the beginning of the year he purchased a Toyota Hilux 2.8 2007 model to the value of R657 155.50 in Gezina Pretoria.
This continued for three months despite efforts to block the debit orders.
He also submitted an affidavit requesting the bank to stop the debit orders.
Mphakane is in arrears to the amount of R28 082.94 from Neil Reyneke Auto Exclusive.
This has had an impact on his credit name, which makes it hard to buy in credit.
ABSA Managing Executive of Vehicle and Asset Finance said their forensic together with the police are investigating this matter.
