The Gauteng Department of Social Development will be hosting, on Saturday, 360 children from government-run institutions, in the province, to educate them about the impact of teenage pregnancy. An alarming number of 3 000 girl children aged between 10 and 14 reportedly became mothers in 2018 in South Africa.
Statistics South Africa commissioned a Recorded Live Births report that showed that a total of 3 261 girl children aged between 10 and 14 were registered as mothers in South Africa last year. Of the 3 261, 1 959 registered the births late, which meant the babies were born earlier, but alerted government of their births last year.
Stakeholders from Health and Education will also deliberate on among others the contributory factors and the impact of teenage pregnancy on economy and fertility, determination or termination role of health care and social workers.
