What are the chances of getting your wallet back after being a victim of pickpocketing in the Johannesburg CBD? A 33-year-old male had the unfortunate pickpocketing experience on Friday when he lost his wallet on Corner Noord and Wanderers Street.
Shortly after, a suspicious male was spotted by kiosk community patrollers, who were busy with their routine crime prevention duties, trying to hide something before realizing that he was being watched and ran away.
“Upon spotting the patrollers he ran away and dropped a wallet that was later picked up by the members. The wallet contained R255 along with bank cards and a Clicks card. The patrollers then went to Clicks to check the victim’s cellphone number and were able to get a hold of him. The victim then came over to the kiosk caravan around 6pm after knocking off from work to collect his wallet”, explained Captain Xoli Mbele.
The victim was extremely delighted and couldn’t believe that good and honest Samaritans still exist within a city that is well known for its high crime rate.
Johannesburg Station Commander Brigadier Perumalcommended the community patrollers for their good deeds. He applauded their commitment to make the Johannesburg CBD a safer place.
