City of Ekurhuleni roads name changes in the process

Name changing are in the pipeline for the Gillooly’s interchange (N12) to George Bizos, Edenvale (N12) to Lungile Mtshali and Barbara Road (R24) to Lazarus Mawela.

The Ekurhuleni Council has adopted the renaming of geographical features in the City of Ekurhuleni on February 21, and in total there are about 42 proposed names. The following name changes were amongst the proposed:

  • New Library in Tsakane – Mpho Rehab Molepo Library.
  • Thokoza (R59) – Dumisa Ntuli.
  • Barbara Road (R24) – Lazarus Mawela.
  • Edenvale (N12) – George Bizos.
  • Gilllooly’s Interchange (N12) – George Bizos.
  • Voortrekker in Kempton Park – Amon Ngulele.

The Gillooly’s interchange on the N12 is proposed to be renamed to George Bizos due to his dedication to fight for basic human rights in the apartheid years. These names will go through a consultation process in a form of an advertisement in local media for comments and objections, while public hearings and consistency meetings organised and facilitated by councilors will also be held.
