FAILED CASH-IN-TRANSIT ROBBERY IN TEMBISA

A cash-in-transit robbery attempt took place in Moedi Section, Thembisa, on Monday at around 13:00 in the afternoon.

According to people who saw the incident, armed suspects attacked a security vehicle shortly after it collected cash from Moedi Engine garage. The suspects were driving a BMW and a Toyota Corolla and were believed to be working together as a group.

Witnesses said the suspects tried to force the cash vehicle off the road by driving in front of it and blocking its path. The situation was dangerous for other motorists and pedestrians nearby, but the security guards reacted quickly and managed to avoid the attack.

After a short chase, the cash-in-transit crew escaped safely. No cash was taken, and no injuries were reported during the incident, according to those at the scene.

The suspects ran away from the scene and left behind a burnt Toyota Corolla, which is believed to have been used in the attempted robbery. Police later arrived at the scene and started their investigation and began searching for the suspects.

Almost four hours after the incident, residents said the area was still not fully secured. People in Moedi and nearby Umthambeka said only one police van was at the scene.

Residents also said no fire truck came to deal with the burnt vehicle, raising concerns about emergency response. Police have not yet shared an official statement, and investigations are continuing.
