Floods and winter in one week

The weather in Gauteng has been interesting lately considering that all four seasons can occur in one day. The recent floods have displaced people from their homes and ruined buildings in some areas while load-shedding reared its irritating head once again. Pretoria has to be the most affected with certain parts of Mamelodi completely engulfed in water. Cars couldn’t move on the roads and pedestrians ran the risk of drowning.

As cold as it briefly was Eskom couldn’t resist cutting the power supply and ensuring that residents have no access to warmth. South Africa is an interesting country I tell you not so long ago there was a lengthy drought which left Johannesburg residents’ taps temporarily empty. Was it God punishing us for our sins? I have no idea but I’m glad he did a 360 and decided to answer some of our prayers regarding water because in no time there was an influx of infinite rainfall.

The heat was unbearable and it didn’t seem as if it would be subsiding anytime soon. But what do you know? Within a week December turned into June and winter made a swift return with a flurry of rain drops.

The flooding is disastrous without a doubt and, not to mention, costly but the rain was needed indeed. Even the North West experienced some light thunder showers in the midst of their continuous dry season.

These wet and chilly days can thrust a person into nostalgia and make them reminisce about being a kid again who had no responsibilities and could afford to sleep all day. Good memories huh? Too bad you have bills to pay nowadays and a job to get to, growing up sucks I know. On the lighter side, though, our reservoirs and dams are stable meaning we can all look forward to taking a warm bath provided Eskom sees it the same way of course.
