The Health Department in Gauteng Province through its Clinical Forensic Medical Services (CFMS) has partnered with various stakeholders in an attempt to raise awareness in curbing the rising incidents of Gender-Based Violence in Diepsloot.
Held under the theme: “Economic Justice for a Non Violence and Non Sexist South Africa” the campaign aims to amongst others, encourage the community around Diepsloot to engage on how to protect women and children at home and in the community during COVID-19 pandemic and going forward, bring to the fore the plight of lesbians women who are sexually victimised through “corrective rape” in Gauteng communities and to provide survivors with information on services and organisations that can help to reduce the impact of violence on their lives.
GBV has been referred to as the other pandemic, with almost 70 cases of sexual assault reported to Clinical Forensic Medical Services in the past financial year.
The stakeholders will join hands to raise awareness about preventative measures and the role that can be played by multiple stakeholders to bring an end to gender-based violence.
