Sam Shaba is a rare breed and the future of local male artists. Born and raised in Hammanskraal, Pretoria, Shaba’s art represents the people’s feelings, life experiences and how the world treats them. He’s affectionately known as Sam Redemption Art, who aims to introduce art in his community.
“My future plans are to introduce art in the community of Hammanskraal. I want to build my own art studio and art center for young ones in the community who have the same talents as my own to help them grow into it. I’m a self-taught artist who is very patient and very passionate about my work,” Shaba said.

He is currently doing commission drawing portraits for individuals. Shaba told Gauteng News he’s inspired by Flex Percy Maimela who is also a local artist in his area. His motto is to create realistic art which will connect people.
“I do this type of art because I’m more interested in realism, creating realistic art is hard. The harder it is, is the more I get driven to focus, to be more observed and have patience to create hyper realistic art. Most people are suffering from low self-esteem because of body shaming especially women,” Shaba said.
Shaba said art is a talent that needs to be given adequate time and hard work.
“My work comes first, that’s how important my work is to me. I’m an open person and I help anyone who is struggling to improve on his/her Art works. Other people’s hard work and successes motivates even my parents; they play a huge role in my journey of Art.” Shaba said.
