Gauteng Health MEC Dr Bandile Masuku recently visited South Rand Hospital as part of an effort to improve patient experience in health facilities. Various interventions have been introduced in order to reduce long queues and waiting times at South Rand Hospital.
The hospital has introduced a programme, Central Chronic Medicine Dispensing and Distribution, where patients can collect their medication from external service points to reduce waiting time. In addition to this South Rand Hospital has undertaken health education and engagement with the surrounding community and clinics to discuss challenges and measures to address long waiting queues.

“The file appraisal and sampling by records management is currently underway. Furthermore, the triage system has been implemented to assist in segregating patients according to the severity of sickness. The filing system will be changed to a unit filing system in order to reduce the waiting time when patients collect their records”, said spokesperson for Health MEC, Kwara Kekana.
Kekana further stated, “One of the key priority areas of the 6th administration is to improve the patient experience in facilities. MEC Masuku’s visit to the hospital is part of on-going efforts to understand firsthand the challenges faced by both staff and patients in facilities, get a better view of pressure points in specific facilities, and to provide necessary support.”
