A male suspect from Malawi was arrested by the Johannesburg Metropolitan Police Department (JMPD) IIOC Undercover Reaction Unit for the possession of suspected stolen property in Meadowlands, Soweto. The incident happened on Saturday, 13 May.
The officers received information regarding a suspected stolen electricity cable in Meadowlands. JMPD Spokesperson Xolani Fihla confirmed the incident. The officers were deployed to the given address, and upon their arrival at the said location, a male was found inside the premises.
“Police officers proceeded to search the property, and an electricity cable was found in the yard. The male was questioned about the cable found on his premises, and he alleged that he is a City Power subcontractor. He further alluded that his wife is a City Power employee and she is well aware of the cable in their premises,” he said.
The suspect is due to appear at the Orlando Magistrates Court on Monday, 15 May. He was requested to contact his wife regarding the matter. Fihla said the suspect failed to show up, and he was detained at Meadowlands SAPS where a case docket was opened for further investigation.
