MEC Mazibuko applauds peace officers for rescuing motorist

The Gauteng MEC for Community Safety, Faith Mazibuko, commends the three Department of Community Safety Peace Officers, who rescued a motorist on the R515 road in the Cullinan precinct towards Rayton. While driving on the R515, a cyclist alerted the officers about a vehicle that had just overturned on the other side of the road, the officers acted promptly and rushed to the scene.

Upon arrival on the scene where the car had overturned, they found a lady trapped inside the car, crying helplessly and seeking for assistance. The officers had to use force to rescue the lady from the wreckage, called emergency services and notified the lady’s partner about the incident.

The three officers, Lucky Mavungu, Phomolo Hlongwane and Itumeleng Tshiane, are part of hundreds of students who underwent Peace Officer training under the Gauteng Traffic Police training programme, and are now linked to Safety Kiosks across the province, which provide police visibility and serve as a link between communities and the South African Police Service.  Throughout the Peace Officers have been instrumental in assisting with crime prevention and road safety initiatives.

“I am proud of Officers Mavungu, Hlongwane and Tshiane, who displayed Ubuntu by rescuing the lady who was trapped in an overturned vehicle. These officers went beyond the call of duty and showed commitment to their calling of serving”, said MEC Mazibuko.
