South African Police Services (SAPS) have recently arrested a male suspect who seems to be a loan shark with possession of unlicensed firearm at the party in Naledi, Soweto.
According to the Department of Community Safety MEC Faith Mazibuko’s tweeter post, police dispersed a crowd of people who held a party at the house next to the tavern in Naledi.
“Police approached a house where there was a party and dispersed people as they broke rules and regulations of Covid-19 lockdown. They were also exceeding an allowed gathering number of people. After dispersing people, police searched vehicles that were parked on the street near the pub. Inside one of the cars they recovered an illegal firearm and a notebook with a list of people names that seemed to owe the owner of the car. The suspect will appear in court soon charged with possession of unlicensed firearm and ammunitions. The party initiator will also be held accountable for breaking lockdown rules and be arrested or fined”, the post reads.
On a different case, Kwa Lichaba pub in Orlando West Soweto falls amongst a list of pubs that got shut by the police for also breaking Covid-19 regulations, by allowing patrons to party at mid-night yesterday. Police seized the sound system that was used at the pub and the manager was also arrested.
