The MMC for Community & Social Development Services, councilor Thabisile Vilakazi was at the Mamelodi schools distributing sanitary towels to female learners who find it hard to buy them, accompanied by Miss SA Teen Finalist Oratile Siima, whom they collaborate with in this project. These sanitary pads were distributed at Ribane Laka Secondary School and Agnes Chibi Primary School, today.
It is the South Africa’s priority to always look out for the community. The Tshwane Social Development Services has started with this sanitary towels drive project to help girls from disadvantaged schools and homes.
Vilakazi said that with a challenge of personal hygiene, these girls miss about four days of school, which makes it a month in a year when they are in a menstrual process because they cannot afford sanitary pads.
“Sometimes even drop out of school altogether”, she added. Because that might jeopardize their future the Tshwane Social Development Services is trying to meet these girls half way so they can build their future and also donate to the coming generation.
Boldly so, Vilakazi said, “The City of Tshwane will continue to ensure that the most vulnerable in our society are catered go and supported. No more should there girl learners that drop out from school due to not having access to sanitary pads.” As they continue to help other schools.
