A pleasing number of the educators and staff in the education sector has been vaccinated. In the first two days of the vaccination programme in the education sector,105 000 people got their jabs in the 7 provinces and 582 000 is expected to be vaccinated by the 8th of July.
The Department of Health has already recorded 49 779 educators and staff who were vaccinated on Wednesday and 55 444 on the next day.
The Limpopo Premier Chupu Mathababatha, Education MEC Polly Boshielo and Basic Education Minister Angie Motshekga will launch the vaccine roll out programme today in Limpopo. The spokesperson Elijah Mhlanga said, “the number of people vaccinated is set to increase significantly when Limpopo and Western Cape start in the earnest today.”
KwaZulu Natal, Eastern Cape, Free State, Mpumalanga and North West are so far doing great with their targeted number of people to be vaccinated. Gauteng and Northern Cape had the least number as of Thursday.
The Department of health has assured the education sector that there will be enough doses of vaccine for all the educators and staff. “The Department of Health has this morning announced that more Johnson & Johnson doses have arrived in the country,” added Mhlanga.
He lastly said that the Department urges all educators and staff to follow the schedules in each district in order to ensure a smooth roll-out of the programme.
