Russia’s Sputnik V Covid 19 Vaccine not approved

The South African Health Products Regulatory Authority also known as (Sahpra), said after careful consideration.

Russia’s Sputnik V Covid-19 vaccine has notbeen approved for use in the country.

SAHPRA is concerned that the use of the vaccine in the country may set a high HIV prevalence and may increase the risk of vaccinated males to acquire HIV.

In a statement the regulatory said it had been engaged in regular review of the data for the vaccine, since the initial application was submitted this year on February 23.

But after consultation with local and international scientific experts, and consideration of the available data.

The regulatory authority decided not to approve the vaccine to be used  in South Africa for now.
