Covid-19 field hospital under way for Tshwane

Gauteng Premier David Makhura announced that the provincial health department is in the process of finalising details for aCoronavirus field hospital on Wednesday. The hospital wouldservice the Rosslyn and Soshanguve areas.

“When we have a field hospital here in Rosslyn it will not just be for the employees but will also assist the community in Soshanguve when we get to the peak which is still coming,” said Makhura.

Meanwhile, Makhura said all sectors of the economy should get ready for the easing of the lockdown regulations. He empasised that employers will be required to provide a workplace risk assessment plan.

The Premier together with MEC’s for Health and Economic Development, Agriculture and Rural Development, Bandile Masuku and Morakane Mosupyoe visited the area to assess compliance with health and safety protocols.  This visit came as the province prepares for alert level three of the national lockdown, pending the decision by the National Coronavirus Command Council (NCCC).

This assessment plan should include the provision of screening and testing facilities, sanitary and social distancing measures to protect vulnerable employees. The Premier urged all businesses to prioritise the health and safety of all employees.

“We urge every business that is currently operating in Gauteng, as well as those that are preparing to open to take steps to protect their employees and prioritise their health and safety. We want to prioritise the saving lives as we reopen the economy,” Premier Makhura said.

The Premier said where possible, employees should be encouraged to work from home to limit the risk of transmission of the virus.
