Gauteng Government Investigates Suspected Information Breach

JOHANNESBURG – 13 March 2026 — The Gauteng Provincial Government has confirmed that it has launched an investigation into a suspected breach involving government information.

In a media statement released on Friday, the provincial government said it had become aware of allegations relating to the possible compromise of sensitive government information. Authorities have since initiated a preliminary investigation to establish the facts and determine the extent of the alleged breach.

Officials indicated that the matter is being treated with the seriousness it deserves. Internal processes have already been activated, while relevant authorities are being engaged to assist with the investigation.

According to the statement, it would be premature to speculate about the details of the alleged breach while investigations are still underway. Government officials stressed that their immediate priority is to verify the claims and ensure that all appropriate measures are taken to protect public information.

The provincial administration reiterated its commitment to safeguarding government data and ensuring that all systems and processes remain aligned with applicable laws, regulations and security protocols.

The Gauteng Provincial Government further assured the public that additional communication will be provided once the investigation progresses and more verified information becomes available.

Spokesperson for the provincial government Elijah Mhlanga said authorities are actively working to establish the full scope of the matter. Meanwhile, spokesperson for Panyaza Lesufi, Sizwe Pamla, confirmed that the Premier’s office is closely monitoring the situation.

The provincial government has encouraged patience while the investigative process unfolds and reaffirmed its commitment to transparency and accountability in protecting government information systems.
