The Department of Home Affairs says it has reduced its uncollected ID backlog from a
staggering 90 000 to 55 000 in Gauteng. This is according to Minister Siyabonga Cwele.
More than 30 000 identity document have been collected in four days from Home Affairs
following a drive by the department in less than a week.
Progress is being made in reducing the number of uncollected IDs across the country ,
particularly In Gauteng , in the first four days of this week .The number of collected IDs in
Gauteng was reduce to 55 000 from 90 000 of last week ( were said during a visit to the
garankuwa home affairs office
Minister Cwele was monitoring service delivery and assessing the offices readings to assist
citizens who might want to visit home affairs over the visitors registration weekend.
He said the department should open all its offices from 08:00 to 17:00 on Saturdays and
Sundays.
