Residents request for speed humps

Residents in Chiawelo are frustrated with the increase of accidents caused by reckless drivers due to lack of speed humps and stop signs in their area. The residents are pleading to government, to assist them.

The residents accusemotorists of over speeding atPhandamashango Road especially when there is no traffic. The residents saymotoristspay no attention to stop signs atmhlaba Road, which results in accidents occurring in intersections.

Chiawelo resident JabulaniNwamashangu built a short barrier wall on the pavement outside his home, facing the intersection aimed at protecting his house from being destroyed by motoristsas it has happened several times before.

Another resident who lives near the intersection on Phandamashango Road is John Mabasowho said, “My house is the only one where they haven’t gone through the wall. My son was so concerned about the accidents taking place that he made his own sign and put it up on the tree outside my house a few years ago.”

AmukelaniSingo who resides on Phandamashango Road said when a car crashed into his wall, his girlfriend’s car and swimming pool were damaged.

John said he was frustrated with JRA for not implementing additional safety measures at the intersection. “Everybody passes the buck and doesn’t want to do something,” complained john.

People drive recklessly no matter what traffic calming measures are installed. Traffic engineers are looking into the matter to see if it’s feasible to install speed humps.
