Suspect nabbed in Alexandra for shooting security officers

A security guard was shot and killed while on duty this afternoon in Alexandra, Wynberg after identifying an imposter in their work premises. 

It is understood that an armed suspect wearing a uniform of the 24/7 Security company entered their head office in Wynberg pretending to be a worker there, the suspect was then identified as an imposter and they tried to apprehend him but he ran away on foot.

Two guards gave chase in a car and he was cornered at 1st Avenue Florence Mophosho street (Vasco), the suspect opened fire at the officers who retaliated.

One security officer was shot and killed while his partner was shot and injured in the abdomen.

Alexandra police spokesperson Sergeant Simphiwe Mbatha says the injured security officer was taken to hospital.

“The suspect believed to be in his 40s ran into a random house and hid himself there, our police had to throw in a tear gas to force him out. There was a child in the house but the child was not harmed”

Mbatha says the suspect was arrested and they are investigating a case of murder and attempted murder.
