Jansen Mohammed, 36-year-old Tanzanian national male, was sentenced to 20 years imprisonment for house robbery at the Johannesburg Magistrate Court, on Tuesday, 12 November 2019. The accused was also declared unfit to possess a firearm. It is alleged that four males robbed a house at Muster Crescent Moffatview area on the 21st of November 2018 at 13:00.
“A 24-year-old male was taking a bath in his house while his wife and eight-year-old daughter were watching television. They were shocked to see four male suspects inside the house. She screamed for help and her husband came running to help but was stopped with a firearm that was pointed at him before being pepper sprayed. Their hands and feet were tied with ironing cable and a cell phone charger”, explains Captain Xoli Mbele.
They ransacked the house and took two cell phones, a laptop, television and music system before they fled the scene. The husband managed to untie himself and chased the suspects with the help of the caretaker. The police later apprehended one suspect in the bushes and recovered the victim’s cell phone from him.
The SAPS later commended Constable Seroka of Johannesburg District Trio Detectives for his diligence that lead to this conviction.
