A man who is affectionately called “Malume” – meaning uncle, has been arrested on convictions for sexually assaulting children, one whom is his niece who he stays with, while others are the friends of his niece.
Alexandra police arrested the man on a charge of continuous sexual abuse of young children after a mob attacked him on Friday 30 October.
Police spokesman Sergeant Simphiwe Mbatha said that they were notified of an outcry from the mob, amongst the crowd, a woman who claims she’s of the 8-year-old victim’s sister said she had also been assaulted numerous times by the perpetrator.
She said the eight-year-old had told her that the man who was attacked by the community and often referred to as ‘uncle’, lived in the same yard as the victim and had allegedly raped her. The ‘uncle’ is said to have often called the eight-year-old and other children to his house and given them sweets.
It has been reported that the children claimed the perpetrator would normally fondle the victims’ private parts with his fingers, instructing them to keep what he’s doing to them a secret.
Parents have come out in their numbers to lay claims that their children are also victims. The man has since been apprehended by Alexandra police. He is yet to appear before the Alexandra magistrate’s court.
