Armed robbery foiled for one suspect

A 24-year-old male suspect was arrested by police for business robbery and being in possession of an unlicensed firearm alongside ammunition. The arrest took place at corner Delvers and Albertina Sisulu Streets on Saturday at 15:00.

Four suspects allegedly robbed Lotto Wholesalers at corner Jeppe and Delvers Streets. They reportedly entered the shop and pretended to be shopping while one of them enquired about the pricing. Upon getting the cashier’s attention the suspect then pulled out a gun and commanded the cashiers to lay on the floor.

The robbers took an undisclosed amount of money and two cellphones before fleeing the scene. “As our officers were on patrol in the streets they were stopped by some passersby who alerted them about the robbery. Upon seeing the police vehicle the suspects made a dash for it and ran in different directions. Police managed to apprehend one suspect who was in possession of an unlicensed firearm with no serial number as well as live rounds”, explained Captain Xoli Mbele.

The firearm will be sent to ballistics for further testing and the suspect will be appearing soon at the Johannesburg Magistrate’s Court.
