Braamfischer community fights for services

The society of Braamfischer phase 1 in Soweto is currently striking for better electricity services from Eskom.

Residents around this area have gone several days without electricity and Eskom has not informed them about this black out. The angry community has blocked Elias Motsoaledi road, which is linking Dobsonville and Roodeport.

Braamfischer residents say they will barricade the roads until something happens, because they want lights back in their houses. Community says they want to show Eskom that they mean business.

According to the video that went viral on social media, one of the concerned community member said they have not been able to cook or had a proper meal due to unavailability of electricity.

“Our cellphones are dead and we are unable to communicate with other people. We are stranded and can do nothing without electricity. Eskom just switched off its lights without telling us about what is the problem”, said a community member.

Electricity cut-off takes place in many areas around Soweto due to the fact that Soweto is one of the townships that owe Eskom. However, because of low service delivery such as water, roads and others especially at under developed townships, communities always find solution by striking for better services.
