Covid-19 National tally rises to 240, Eastern Cape reports first case

The number of coronavirus cases in South Africa has risen to 240.The Eastern Cape has now recorded its first case. Gauteng still has the most infections, with 16 new cases.

The Western Cape has recorded 18 new cases and KwaZulu-Natal has three.

At the same time, Parliament is appealing to all South Africans to respect Human Rights in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic.

In a statement earlier, government urged people to treat each other with respect.

Parliament expressed confidence MPs will galvanise their constituencies behind active steps to help curb further infections and promote human rights and access to health care.

Authorities have been praised for implementing regulations aimed at containing the spread of the virus.This follows the President Cyril Ramaphosa’s declaration of a national state of disaster in reaction to the COVID-19 outbreak. All South Africans are being urged to observe these regulations.
