Gauteng’s Best Teachers Receive Well-Deserved Recognition
In a heartfelt celebration of excellence, Gauteng Education MEC Matome Chiloane hosted the 23rd National Teaching Awards at Chief Albert Luthuli Primary School in Benoni on Thursday, 28 September. The event was a testament to the dedication, passion, and unwavering commitment of Gauteng’s educators to shaping the future through education.

MEC Chiloane, standing before a captivated audience of dedicated teachers, emphasized the extraordinary contributions made by teachers to society. He reiterated a fundamental truth: the quality of an education system is intricately linked to the quality of its teachers. The 23rd National Teaching Awards once again served as an annual platform to honor and celebrate the remarkable contributions of teachers from public ordinary schools.

Some of the teachers who won include Janita Prag from Dr. Yusuf Dadoo Primary School in Gauteng West, who clinched the first position for excellence in primary school teaching, among many others. These awards, recognizing teaching excellence, not only inspire teachers but also ignite their resilience and passion. This year’s theme is “Invest in people, prioritize teachers.” MEC Chiloane said teachers help kids learn, ask questions, and make changes.

“You have the power to inspire and change students’ lives. Your work has a big impact on the future. In today’s world with lots of technology, teachers help kids understand information. You teach them to think, care about others, and be strong. You make a place where their dreams can grow and their ideas can fly high,” he said.

According to MEC Chiloane, teachers’ influence transcends the confines of the classroom, leaving an indelible mark on their students’ lives. He said that teachers possessed the remarkable power to inspire, awaken curiosity, and empower the next generation.

“In an era characterized by rapid technological advancement and easy access to information, teachers played an essential role in providing the wisdom and guidance necessary to navigate the vast sea of knowledge. They instilled critical thinking, empathy, and resilience in their students, fostering an environment where dreams could take flight, imaginations could soar, and voices were heard,” he said.

The MEC expressed heartfelt gratitude to all stakeholders involved in education, recognizing the collective effort required to mold the minds and characters of the next generation.
