It is the city of Tshwane’s priority to ensure that the property rights of a particular place are protected from illegal land invaders. There has been a strategic way to address the situation and already over 1000 erected structures have been remove across the city.
It will require all spheres of the government to cooperate to get through this. The MMC for the Human Settlements, councillor Mpho Mehlape-Zimu said, ”The city is able to do this through the deployment of inter-department teams to move in and protect state owned lands by targeting very specific areas in a strategic manner.”
Wolwespruit is one of the areas where illegal invasions took place. Mehlape-Zimu said that the structures in this place have been identified and marked systemically.
“Should any new structures be erected, the Tshwane Metro Police Department are immediately deployed to the area to remove those structures,” she added.
She also added that physical verification has been done. The city working with the home affairs, the undocumented foreign nationals will be removed and make sure that there are no more structures erected.
”Property rights are fundamental aspects of our democracy and the city will explore all available means to ensure that we protect the rights of our residents,” she concluded.
