Johannesburg metro police officer Rose Sithole became an instant hero when she helped a woman who went into labor in the middle of the road on Thursday.
Johannesburg Metro Police Department (JMPD) spokesman Xolani Fihla said the Sithole was alerted by an Integrated Intelligent Operations Command Centre( IIOC) camera operator of a woman who looked like she was going into labor on a pavement in Henry Nxumalo Street near Johannesburg Central SAPS.
Fihla told Gauteng News that it was in an unprecedented act of bravery when the JMPD officer delivered the baby.
“When officer Sithole arrived on the scene, she noticed that the woman who was with her male partner was pregnant.”
“She asked a colleague to go borrow a blanket from Johannesburg Central SAPS and before he could return, officer Sithole had delivered a healthy baby boy on the Joburg Streets. The city of Joburg EMS soon arrived and both mother and baby were taken to Coronation Clinic to be assessed. It’s been said that they are both doing well.”
The mother and her bundle of joy were discharged from the clinic on Saturday.
