The youngest member of the City of Johannesburg’s mayoral committee for housing, Mlungisi Mabaso is dedicated to bringing positive change to the lives of Johannesburgresidents. Councilor Mabaso says his primary responsibilities as the MMC is to provide political directive and conducting political research on the department of housing.
Gauteng News caught up with him to share his upcoming plans of tackling issues of lack of proper housing. The MMC touched on one of the issues that the city of Johannesburg is currently facing.
“One of the challenges that the city of Johannesburg is facing is backlog and my task is to provide housing to the city’s most vulnerable individuals. We are on a journey to upgrade our informal settlements and provide basic services such as roads and title deeds,” said Mabaso.
Mabaso said that he will make sure that the strategy of department of housing is aligned with strategies of the government of local unity.
The strategies are to ensure that people are provided with quality services, have proper housing and good living conditions.
“The department I lead is a crucial and challenging one. With more than 150 000 households in informal settlements and people want access to basic services such as water, electricity and proper roads,” said Mabaso.
Being in politics was all about assisting others as hardship and misery still prevail among citizens.
“Politics is not about money and power; it is about having the passion to help other people. Choose politics because you want to help other people and not for your own benefit,” he added.
