Johannesburg Water warns residents ahead of water shutdown

City of Johannesburg MMC for Environment and Infrastructure Services Nico de Jager says residents should not panic ahead of next week’s Rand Water Shutdown.

The MMC says residents should have enough water to use over the 54-hour period if people start using water sparingly now.

Johannesburg Water released a statement warning all Johannesburg residents on the possible water interruption that will affect water supply for 54 hours from June 24.

However, it does not necessarily mean that there will be no water during the 54 hours shutdown period, but due to long hours, some of the areas may experience a shortage of water or low pressure.

Johannesburg Water says the shutdown will also affect a number of municipalities across the Gauteng Province.

The company also advised residents to regularly check their load-shedding schedule for their areas on the City Power and Eskom websites as load-shedding affects the water supply.

There might not be water in some areas and water could be running low in others.
