Musician and television personality Molemo “Jub Jub” Maarohanye has been arrested in connection with an alleged kidnapping and shooting incident involving an e-hailing driver in Edenvale, Gauteng.
Police confirmed that the 45-year-old was arrested on Sunday and is facing charges of kidnapping, unlawful discharge of a firearm and defeating the ends of justice.
According to police, the incident occurred when an e-hailing driver transported a female passenger to a residence in Edenvale.
National police spokesperson Brigadier Athlenda Mathe said the driver was allegedly confronted by Maarohanye, who accused him of being romantically involved with his girlfriend.
“It is alleged that the suspect forced the e-hailing driver into his vehicle and prevented him from leaving. During the incident, the suspect reportedly discharged a firearm in the direction of the driver,” said Mathe.
The driver reportedly escaped unharmed and drove to a nearby police station, where he reported the incident. Police subsequently arrested Maarohanye shortly afterwards.
Investigations into the matter are ongoing.
Maarohanye is expected to appear in the Germiston Magistrate’s Court, where the charges against him will be formally placed before the court.
The arrest marks another legal challenge for Maarohanye, who previously served time in prison following his conviction for culpable homicide arising from a fatal drag-racing crash in Soweto.
At the time of publication, neither Maarohanye nor his legal representatives had publicly commented on the allegations.
The case remains under investigation, and Maarohanye is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
