Residents of Mapetla in Soweto tried to loot foreign-owned shops, but some community of the members fought back against the people who attempted to attack the Somalians.
However, foreigners had to pack most of their stock before people tried to
attack them.
Landlord to some of the foreigners Lebo Modise spoke to Gauteng News. She says
some people in the community were in solidarity with the shop owners.
“Women and kids waited outside my yard being on the watch out for perpetrators. I love what my community is doing they fought against people who tried to loot foreign-owned shops, but I hope the police will come to patrol the situation.”
Currently the situation is calm and surrounding areas and most foreign shops are closed down.
