The first annual Million Women March was launched recentlyin Evaton, Zone 3 in Vereeniging. The launch was attended by ordinary community members, local government and various NGOs who are fighting against the scourge of gender-based violence.

The event was about bringing multiple stakeholders together, to speak in one voice and to launch the Lady noBuntu torch flame relay. The following day a relay march started from Noord Taxi rank in the Johannesburg CBD headed to Parktown, Zoo Lake, Sandton Gautrain Station and will end in Marlboro Gautrain station

The march was also to encourage all the stakeholders, public and private to work side by side instead of blaming oneanother for not doing enough to help victims, survivors and combat the abuse and murders of women and children.

“The second day of the relay took place in Johannesburg where the PSL Chairman, Dr Irvin Khoza pledged R500 000 towards helping survivors of gender based violence, he further implored the PSL to increase its dedication against the fight against GBV. He called on the citizens of South Africa to revive the sense of Ubuntu and moral compass as we fight against this epidemic.” said Aviwe Black, spokesperson of Million Women March.
