The Community Policing Forum of Sector 2 in Soweto has laid four complaints to Brigadier Governsamy, former Station Commander of Moroka Police Stationagainst corruption in the sector. The sector two management received only one response from the station commander with no results or solutions provided.
The Sector 2 crime forum expressed their concerns about the patrollers’ coordinator Judith Phiri, also known as Sehlobo, who is said to be using intimidation tacticsand threats against the patrollers of Sector 2. The Sector 2 management reported their concerns about the legitimacy of Sehlobo and they received response from the former station commander confirming Sehlobo to notbe involved in the patrollers’ coordinator nor the community policing forum.
“Judith Phiri is not a member of our committee nor does she have authorisation to be heading the patrolling coordinators. Former station commander Brigadier Governsamy confirmed with us that Sehlobo is not part of the Sector 2 committee and she doesn’t have the power to be recruiting patrollers.
We want justice because the people who are supposed to be electing the patrollers are the Section 2 management but ever since this woman came into the picture, things are not done accordingly. Our Sector Chairperson Mr Moses Sishi is always harassed by Sehlobo’s marshal coordinators whom we also do not recognize in our sector,” said Pinky Khubeka Block Chairperson of Enkanyezi Sector 2.
The Department of Community Safety, along withDepartment of Education have a formal agreementconfirming that the patrollers who will be working in schools must be paid a certain stipend every month. However, Sector 2 management complained about patrollers hired by the Sector 2 committee not being fully paid and they didn’t receive winter uniforms as they should. Gauteng News attempted to receive a comment from Department of Community Safety and Department of Education but we were unable to reach both parties.
Moroka Police Station has a new Station Commander who filled the position on Wednesday but when our journalists attempted to reach him, they were told the station is attending a meeting. The CPF Sector 2managers are angered by the corruption and maladministration that is taking place at the Moroka Police station, and they demand Judith “Sehlobo” Phiri to be brought to book as she is not supposed to be acting as a patrolling coordinator and having influence at the Moroka Police station.
