Nomvete set to become Amazulu ambassador

Following his retirement last season, former Amazulu striker Siyabonga Nomvete is set to become the club ambassador for the previous team.

Nomvethe brought to an end a stellar career which started in 1997 and culminated in him becoming the Premiership’s all-time leading scorer.

The 41-year-old showed remarkable longevity and is set to continue his work in football by assisting in youth development, as well as promoting Usuthu as a brand.

Team general manager AmaZulu general manager Lunga Sokhela told reporters: “We’ve spoken to our sponsors, it’s going to be a joint programme with them whereby Nomvethe will play an ambassador role.

“We will also use him more in terms of PR, to help us with players as well, it’s an ongoing talk and the good thing is he’s passionate about youth and very good with people. We want to use him to his strengths and help him in his dreams.”

He added that a testimonial match is in the offing for the club legend, concluding: “We are still working on that, we need to work with the municipality in Durban. As soon as everything is sorted in that department, the announcement will be made, we have to be patient.”
