The Road Traffic Management Corporation (RTMC) is taking a tough stance against corrupt traffic officials this Easter travel period. CEO Advocate Makhosini Msibi has warned that any officer found taking bribes will face immediate dismissal. This move is aimed at reducing road fatalities and promoting road safety across South Africa.
Advocate Msibi emphasized the importance of discipline and professionalism among traffic officers, stating, “We cannot allow these people to be among us. You cannot be friends with criminals.” The RTMC has established a National Anti-Corruption Unit to investigate and address corruption within the road traffic fraternity.
Motorists are advised to be cautious on major roads, including the N1 from Gauteng to Polokwane, N3 from Gauteng to KwaZulu Natal, and N2 KwaZulu Natal to Eastern Cape, as these routes are expected to experience high traffic volumes. The RTMC has deployed highly visible law enforcement operations to ensure road safety.
The public is encouraged to report any suspected bribery or corruption to the RTMC’s National Anti-Corruption Hotline at 0861 762 847 or via email at ntacu@rtmc.co.za. Motorists can also report incidents via WhatsApp to 083 293 7989 .
