A dramatic shootout in Mofolo, Soweto, Johannesburg, resulted in the deaths of four suspected criminals and the arrest of two others on Wednesday. The incident followed a tip-off from the Modus Operandi Centre about a planned armed robbery at a business in Kwezi, Mofolo.A multi-agency team, including the Hawks’ Tactical Operation Management Section, Badboyz Security, and the Gauteng Highway Patrol, responded to the intelligence, locating the suspects’ vehicles near the target.
When the suspects realised they were being watched, they fled, leading to a high-speed chase and shootout.Gauteng Hawks spokesperson Colonel Katlego Mogale confirmed that four suspects were fatally wounded in the aftermath, while two were arrested. The arrested suspects face charges including business robbery, attempted murder, and possession of illegal firearms. A seventh suspect escaped on foot and is still at large.According to Colonel Mogale, the operation showcased effective collaboration between law enforcement agencies. “The successful outcome of this operation is a testament to the dedication and professionalism of the team involved,” she said.The police are urging anyone with information about the escaped suspect or the planned robbery to come forward.
Authorities are working to track down the suspect and bring them to justice.The investigation is ongoing, with authorities reviewing evidence and interviewing witnesses. The case will be brought before the court once the investigation is complete.
