Power utility Eskom has announced that stage 2 power cuts will kick in from Monday afternoon, running from 5 pm until 10 pm.
The embattled Eskom says it has lost 14 202MW to breakdowns.
The utility’s spokesperson Sikonathi Mantshantsha said the situation could continue in the coming weeks if the capacity does not improve.
“Eskom will continue to closely monitor the system, adjust and communicate any changes as may be necessary. We appeal to all South Africans to help limit the impact of the shortages by continuing to reduce the usage of electricity and to switch off all non-essential items.
The power utility said load shedding will be implemented during this time, every evening this week, until Thursday night.
“Eskom cautions the public that as the shortage of generation capacity persists, the system will continue to be constrained with an elevated risk of load shedding over the coming weeks.”
