Gauteng police have arrested a 54-year-old man in Rietfontein for dealing with drugs and illicit liquor during operation O kae molao on Thursday.
Police spokesperson Matsobane Mabusela said the street value of the drugs and illicit liquor that were confiscated had yet to be determined by forensic services.
“Dagga, ‘lollipops’ and ‘cookies’, which were all suspected to have been produced with a narcotic bearing ingredient, were also seized as well as alcohol-producing utencils,” said Mabusela.
Mabusela said an investigation is currently underway. “Intense investigations are currently underway and more arrests concerning this incident are expected to be made soon,” he said.
On another operation in Ga-Rankuwa the police arrested a suspect for dealing in endangered species (abalone). Mabusela said the value of the abalone is also yet to be confirmed.
Mabusela said a total of about 300 suspects were also arrested across Tshwane for various crimes. “Some were arrested for the commission of offences ranging from, contravention of disaster management act regulations, possession of stolen motor vehicle, dealing in drugs, domestic violence, possession of illicit cigarettes among others,” said Mabusela.
He said all those who were arrested will appear in different magistrates’ courts around Tshwane.
Mabusela has urged community members to observe all disaster management act protocols and compliance with the curfew regulations.
