The Gauteng Department of Transport has issued a strong call to public transport operators to collect their approved Operating Licences (OLs) without delay, warning that failure to do so may lead to compliance challenges and potential cancellations.
MEC Diale-Tlabela emphasised that operators must take responsibility for ensuring business continuity by promptly collecting their documents once approved.
“We have intensified our efforts to make Operating Licenses available weekly. We now call on all approved operators to collect their licenses without delay. The Department cannot hold licences indefinitely, and operators risk cancellation if they fail to collect,” said MEC Diale-Tlabela.
The Department confirmed that Operating Licences are now available for collection during the weekly Wednesday handover sessions, and operators who have received approval notifications, SMS reminders, or communication through their associations are urged to attend without further postponement.
Outstanding Documents Causing Delays
Authorities also raised concerns about operators who still have pending or incomplete vehicle information, including:
- Vehicle registration documents
- Roadworthy certificates
- Proof of ownership
The Department explained that outstanding documentation contributes significantly to processing delays and prolongs the existing backlog.
Operators Encouraged to Finalise Requirements
To speed up the process, operators are encouraged to liaise with officials from the Provincial Regulatory Entity (PRE) or visit their nearest regional offices to complete any outstanding requirements.
The Department stressed that timely submission of all necessary documents is essential to improving efficiency and ensuring operators remain compliant.
