Department of Health and Social Development MMC Mpho Phalatse was shocked to hear that two pre-school toddlers died because of rat poisoning found in the premises of a Westdene pre-school.
Phalatse said it is alleged that the deceased were under the care and supervision of a private-run pre-school without the necessary permits to do so.
“According to allegations, the area is infested with illegally run pre-schools. I have visited the family of deceased with South African Police Services (SAPS), therefore to find the underlying cause of the issue. I was accompanied by City’s officials in Social Development including social workers, the City Child Desk, Environmental Health, the Emergency Management Services and Local Ward Councillor”, said Phalatse.
